Police in Mchinji are keeping in custody a village head and four of his subjects for slashing a four hectare maize field belonging to a woman whom he has picked a land dispute.

Lubriano confirmed chief Nyoka who is
Rodrick Langa is in their hands.
“Him and his four subjects went to the
maize field belonging to Mrs Mary
Lungu, slashed all the maize and
planted soya beans instead,” said the
police publicist.
Mrs Lungu said she has large sways of
land which she inherited from her
parents and rents out part of the land
because she cannot manage to farm all
the land alone.
She said the chief has been pressing
for part of the land.
The police say the chief and the four
subjects, who include one woman, will
appear in court as soon as the holiday
is over.
