Silver Strikers have advanced to the semifinals of the Fisd Challenge Cup after beating Dwangwa United 1-0 at Chitowe stadium on Saturday.
The banker’s hero on the day was Blessings Tembo who came off the bench to score the only goal and set a date with the winner in tomorrow’s match between Be Forward Wanderers and Zolozolo United.
The match started on a highnote as both Dwangwa and Silver Strikers were in search for the opener in the early stages of the first but they failed to unlock each other’s defences as they all defended well.Midway through the first half Silver started building some momentum as their midfielders and strikers were combining well.In the second half, both sides came in with fresh ideas but it was Lovemore Fazili’s ideas that proved to be working as Silver dominated possession in the opening minutes of the match.Nine minutes into the second half the central bankers were awarded a free kick just outside the Dwangwa penalty area by referee Azizi Nyirenda, for a foul on Thuso Paipi. Timothy Chitedze stepped up but he blasted his kick over the bar.A minute later Silver Strikerscoach substituted Paipi and replaced him with Blessing Tembo who combined well with Chitedze, Levison Maganizo, and Danken Nyoni.Midway through the second half Silver Strikers opened the scoreline through Blessings Tembo after the Dwangwa defence was caught napping in the line ofduty.
After that goal, Dwangwa United showed some qualityas they were trying to force their way back into the game but Silver Strikers defended well as they did not allow the Dwangwa based side from equalising and the match ended 1 nil infavour of the bankers.Speaking to the media after the match, Silver Strikers coach Lovemore Fazili said he was delighted with the win whereas Dwangwa United coach McDonald Mtetemera conceded defeat.In another other Fisd challenge cup quarterfinal match, Blue Eagles beat Tiakalulu 2 nil at Nankhaka stadium in Lilongwe to advance to the semis of the cup.
